Cards for the Troops Update:

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Cards for the Troops campaign.   A box of 198 cards went overseas in care of PVC. Dusty Brown, a Marine whose name was submitted by Harry Shortway.  Harry taught Dusty in Jefferson High School.  Dusty is a Marine serving overseas and will distribute the cards to the guys and gals over there.  In a true effort of Holiday spirit many groups and organization participated in collecting these cards.  Many of the cards were handmade with heartfelt messages in them, while others were donated from the community.  They came from the Senior Citizen Group, Brownie Troops, Girl Scout Troops, Elementary school classrooms and many that attended the Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony.  Even Santa signed a card for the soldiers.

The good news in all of this was that in trying to locate a troop to send them to I found out that all the divisions that had Vernon residents in it had already returned safe and sound.  I guess that is Vernon's gift this year to know that our citizen's who volunteer to protect us will be spending this holiday season with their family and friends safely on our shores.  We hope that the division that Dusty is in will return to us in the same condition and return quickly.

This update was provided by Mary Bradley who was instrumental in creating, organizing, and seeing it through. It was great to hear local residents are currently out of harms way. We wish a safe holiday season and more to those members serving that still are deployed in hostile regions. Thank you ALL. May all members serving home and overseas have a wonderful and safe holiday as may all members of your family, friends, and collegues.

Additional thanks and job well done to the following groups already mentioned above:  Senior Citizen Group, Brownie Troops, Girl Scout Troops, Elementary school classrooms, attendees at the Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony, and Santa
