Home for the Holidays Festival

We will be updating this information shortly for this years event. Below is the information on how our first annual Home4dHolidays came about:

======================================================================

An idea has been brewing, sorry for the pun, for an event at the Nordic House. We brought it up at a recent Kiwanis meeting and it was suggested to host it somewhere else. While we would love to have had it here the most important thing is to have it. We have since talked with St. Thomas and they are interested as well. This is a good thing for several reasons but first enough with the lead in here's the nitty gritty of it.

A "Home for the Holidays" Festival to be held in Vernon. A festival that isn't held by the Nordic House, or Kiwanis, or St. Thomas, ora(the) Fire Dept(s) but a festival that is held by us all and more.

These are tough times and that means money is tight but it also means that people's spirits and ability to do things is also down. This is a great time for all of us to do a little that will provide a lot to all. Like ScanFest,which we recently attended it's more about the having and sharing and enjoying than it is about the "Big Event". When I still worked for HP, my favorite task and event was our children’s' holiday party for it had that kind of purpose and feel to it as well. That said it doesn't mean that this is a small event it's just that it's about the "small town" festival approach.

So the Nordic House, Kiwanis, St. Thomas, the VernonsOwn SBA, and what ever other organizations/groups/businesses/individuals that can and or want to help,we are offering you that opportunity. A chance to work together for the good of all, and in the spirit that is so prevalent during that time of year, to be part of a "HOME for the HOLIDAYS" festival.

One aspect of the event is that it also is a fund raiser for our local organizations, and a way to promote our local businesses and our township to residents and to tourists. It will provide a great venue for residents and visitors to our area, creating a reason to come and enjoy Vernon, for the day or for the entire event. Another aspect is that it isn't in just one location but actually incorporates and includes many parts and facets of our town. More on this later.

The event itself is still a concept forming as the logistics and the list of participants solidifies. One big aspect though, and the reason we need to get going on this immediately, is the ice skating ring we are looking at setting up for it. Fear not naysayers, it doesn't matter if it’s warm or even hot as it's a synthetic one that one can use normal ice skates on.

Again this isn't an inclusive event and we will be contacting the Chamber,Rotary, fire departments, and other groups as we can. Better yet contact us first, to join in and/or help make this happen. We also presented it to the council.

As to contributions, it’s what you feel you can do or afford, or both, or neither. All are welcome to help, as all are welcome to enjoy what we hope will become an annual event of Vernon caring and sharing during the Holidays.

If you are interested in helping or ideas for things to do or have, please send an email at info@Home4dHolidays.com or call (973)-209-4279. Thanks !
