Home for the Holidays Festival
Ice Skating Rink for Christmas week or Thanksgiving to Jan
Rink would be used for skating and as a place where skating demonstrations, shows, classes could be done by local talent/residents. Might also be used for dance and/or other exhibits
Rink is portable and can be relocated quickly and easily so after holidays it can go to each area of town for a week? Used by organizations for other events through out the year.
Include normal already scheduled events as highlights to and/or part of festival such as the tree lighting and Santa’s visit(s) (Santa on ice?)
Include and incorporate communities events such as holiday decoration contest by area/community, overall for township, various categories including perhaps a best done with least (aka Charlie Brown Christmas Tree award), have a map/brochure of houses that are participating and/or chosen, tour of them?
Overall Home for the Holidays Donation fund to be distributed to local charities/churches/volunteer groups and/or have them decide on recipients
Local business and groups vendor activities—food/crafts/etc – street fair(s)
Combined holiday cake and bake sale contest by areas (and then overall?) or all at once, by all wanting to participate – separate or as part of street fairs/rink/etc
Singing/caroling of numerous groups/choirs/etc
Pool resources and have a bus kids to Santa thingee for lakes/communities so each doesn’t need to do their own
To include various aspects of how various cultures/nationalities/religions/etc celebrate the holidays and such (for Nordic House a St. Lucia walk and/or maybeTomtes/Nisses). Learn about Displays?
Holiday shopping/food shuttles to local businesses (leave car at home or in area parking lots?)
